Margie Erwin Sweeney Scholarship St. Romuald School, Hardinsburg, KY

About the scholarship: Founded in 2013, the annual Margie Erwin Sweeney Scholarship honors the memory of St. Romuald graduate and parish member by the same name. The scholarship is in the amount of $500, to be credited to a student’s financial obligation to St. Romuald for their 8th grade year. Scholarship monies cannot be used for any purpose other than tuition at St. Romuald School in Hardinsburg, KY.

Who can apply: Any 7th grade student currently enrolled in St. Romuald School that anticipates returning to St. Romuald for their 8th grade year. If the winning student does not attend St. Romuald for their 8th grade year, the scholarship is forfeited and will not be awarded to another student for that year.

How to apply: 7th grade students should write an essay entitled, "How I Will Use My Catholic Education to Serve Others". Essays should be written in English, using proper grammar, punctuation and spelling, while being no more than one page in length. Students should complete the task based on the timeline outlined by their teacher and provided by the scoring committee. Essays should be submitted to the scoring committee with the students names omitted and replaced with a number that only the teacher knows. This will guarantee anonymity for the students and bias from the readers.

Scholarship Award: The student with the winning essay will receive a token to recognize their work and remembrance of the scholarship, while the monetary award will be applied directly to the students school account via the established scholarship fund. No money will be given directly to the student or their family members.
